About Elefante
Elefante is a range of modern and affordable Spanish wines sourced from the Castilla La Mancha region, Spain's largest wine growing area. All the wines are grown, made and bottled in the region and are imported into Australia by Fourth Wave Wine Partners.
The Region
Castilla La Mancha's vast, high and dry plains are located in the middle of the Iberian peninsula. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures effortlessly ripe vineyards and richly flavoured fruit that maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east adds elegance to the wines.
Elefante is a joint partnership between Jorge Garcia Cuenca from Castilla la Mancha and Javier Murua of Rioja with the aim of creating affordable Spanish wines of true quality and character. Jorge is a native of La Mancha and brings years of expreience with rich and expressive fruit, while Riojan Javier adds finesse and character.
“We don’t march in demonstrations but we are certainly no fans of globalisation. In the struggle at lower prices points to deliver quality, character often takes a back seat to ripe and round flavours that could be from anywhere. We wanted wines that were emphatically Spanish.”
